Day01 Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa and to Tibet (3656m/11995ft)
On the day of your departure from Kathmandu to Lhasa, a representative from Himalaya Land Treks will transfer you to the airport. The transfer service ensures that you arrive at the airport in a timely and hassle-free manner, allowing you to focus on the upcoming flight.
The flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa typically takes around 1 hour. During this time, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Himalayan mountain range from the plane window.
Upon arrival at Lhasa Gonggar Airport, you will be greeted by your Tibet guide, who will assist you with the necessary formalities before transferring you to your hotel. The guide will be able to provide you with valuable insights about Lhasa, including tips on local customs and traditions.
The remainder of the day will be at your leisure, with no planned activities scheduled. This provides you with the perfect opportunity to settle in and get accustomed to the new surroundings. Day02 Potala Palace PM: Sera Monastery and Norbulingka (3656m/11995ft)
Today, you have an exciting itinerary planned, beginning with a visit to the world-famous Potala Palace, which is also the residence of the Dalai Lama. This magnificent palace is located on the Red Mountain and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The palace provides a surreal introduction to the cultural beliefs and norms prevalent in Lhasa, and is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting the region.
After exploring the Potala Palace, you will head to the Sera Monastery, which is one of the three great monasteries of Tibet. Here, you can witness the daily routines of the monks, including their philosophical debates. The monastery is located just outside Lhasa, and the serene atmosphere is a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Next, you will visit the Norbulingka Palace, located on the western edge of Lhasa at the banks of the Kyichu River. This beautiful palace spans an area of 360,000 square meters and is filled with well-preserved gardens, making it one of the most picturesque locations in the region. In the morning, we will head to the Drepung Monastery, which is located at the foot of the Gambo Utse Mountain, west of the city. This monastery holds great significance as it was once one of the largest monasteries in Tibet and was also the residence of the Dalai Lama before the construction of the Potala Palace. From afar, the monastery's white architecture looks like a heap of rice, which adds to its charm.
After our visit to the Drepung Monastery, we will head to the Jokhang Temple, which is considered one of the most important temples in Tibetan Buddhism. The temple is located in the heart of Lhasa and is surrounded by the vibrant Barkhor Street. This street is a bustling marketplace that sells an array of goods, including prayer flags, jewelry, and Tibetan handicrafts, making it a unique cultural experience.
Following the tour, we will be dropped back at the hotel for some rest and relaxation. In the evening, we will indulge in a farewell dinner hosted by Himalaya Land Treks, where we will reminisce about our journey and bid farewell to our fellow travelers. Day04 Fly back to Kathmandu (1,320m/4,330ft)
As your time in Lhasa draws to a close, it's time to say goodbye to this beautiful city and head back home. On this day, you will be picked up by your guide, who will help you with your luggage and drive you to the airport in time for your flight back to Kathmandu.
Before departing, it's important to double-check your flight details to ensure that you arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare. As a general rule, it's recommended to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your scheduled departure time to allow for security checks, baggage drop-off, and any unexpected delays.
Once you arrive at the airport, your guide will help you with the check-in process and assist you in dropping off your luggage. After checking in, you will need to make your way through security to reach the departure lounge. At this point, you can take some time to relax and enjoy the amenities the airport has to offer, such as restaurants, shops, and lounges.
As your departure time approaches, be sure to keep an eye on the departure board for any updates or changes to your flight's schedule. Boarding usually begins around 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time, so it's essential to be on time to avoid missing your flight.
