As a devout pilgrim, you will join thousands of others in circumambulating the Holy Mountain, a journey that is said to bring good fortune and cleanse the sins of the soul. Your journey begins in the valley where you will spend a day preparing for your visas to China while also touring UNESCO heritage sites in the capital city.
Crossing over to Tibet through the Nepalese border of Kodari, you will reach Nyalam, where you will take a day off to acclimatize to the rising altitudes. Continuing your journey towards Saga, located on the banks of the Yarling Zangbo River, you will head past Paryang and make your way towards Lake Mansarovar, where you will complete all your holy rituals.
Afterward, you will drive to Darchen and begin your Mt. Kailash (6,638m) circumambulation heading to Dira Phug on your first day. Climbing over the Dolma La Pass (5660m), you will make your way towards Dira Phug before descending to Zuthrul Phug Gompa. The final day of the journey takes you back to Darchen, where you will complete your Himalayan adventure.

Day01 Arrival at Kathmandu (1,320m/4,330ft)
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, a representative from Himalaya Land Treks will warmly welcome you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. You can freshen up and relax after your journey. The representative will provide you with all necessary information regarding your trek and introduce you to the staff members who will be accompanying you on your journey.
Your guides for the trek will also be introduced to you and will brief you on the day-to-day itinerary for your travels. They will provide you with important details such as the distance you will cover each day, the terrain you will be trekking through, and any potential challenges you may face during the trek.
Day02 Chinese Visa Preparation Day
To ensure a smooth journey as we cross over to Tibet, we have decided to take an additional day off in Kathmandu to prepare all the necessary documents required for the trip. This will help us avoid any potential problems during our travel.
During our stay in Kathmandu, we plan to explore some of the city's top tourist attractions, including the Pashupatinath temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Boudhanath stupa. These sites are all designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and offer a unique insight into the region's cultural and historical significance.
In addition to these famous landmarks, we also intend to visit Asan Bazaar, a bustling local market where we can immerse ourselves in the daily life of the city and discover some of its hidden gems.
By taking the time to properly prepare for our journey and explore the cultural riches of Kathmandu, we hope to make the most of our trip to Tibet and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Day03 Drive Kathmandu to Kodari and to Nyalam (3750m/12303ft).
The journey begins from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, and takes us towards the Bhaktapur region. As we leave the city, we follow the winding bends of the Araniko Highway that leads us to our destination. Along the way, we pass through the beautiful ChhaKhola and Dolalghat regions, and then continue our journey towards the north, following the banks of the Sun Koshi River.
As we travel along the Sun Koshi River, we get to witness the stunning natural beauty of Nepal, with its rolling hills, verdant forests, and snow-capped mountains in the distance. Our journey continues as we follow the Bhotekoshi River, which takes us to our final destination, the Nepal-Tibet border at Kodari.
Entering the holy city via Zhangmuzeh, we follow the river bank to Nyalam, which is located in the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China. Nyalam is a small town situated at an altitude of around 3,750 meters, and it serves as the gateway to Mount Everest and other high Himalayan peaks.
As we travel towards Nyalam, we get to experience the unique culture and traditions of the Tibetan people, who have inhabited this region for centuries. The town of Nyalam is also known for its breathtaking views of the Himalayan range, which includes some of the highest peaks in the world, such as Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu.
Day04 Rest Day for Acclimatization
Today marks the first of our acclimatization days as we journey through Tibet. Our destination for the day is Nyalam, where we plan to spend some time allowing our bodies to adjust to the increasing altitudes. However, we also plan to take advantage of our stay in Nyalam by exploring the cultural practices of the region.
Nyalam is a traditional Tibetan hamlet that boasts picturesque views of the surrounding mountains. It is a perfect spot for tourists to immerse themselves in the local culture. We plan to visit the nearby Dzongs and monasteries, which will give us an opportunity to learn more about the ancient teachings of Buddhism.
During our stay in Nyalam, we also hope to interact with the locals and get a taste of their unique way of life. The region is known for its colorful festivals and vibrant music, and we can't wait to experience them firsthand.
As we continue our journey through Tibet, we are excited to discover more about this fascinating region and its people. Our time in Nyalam is just the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable adventure.
Day05 Drive Nyalam to Saga (4200m/13780ft).
Today's journey is relatively shorter as we make our way towards the charming city of Saga. Starting from Nyalam, we will pass by Yalaixiang and travel west along the banks of the Pum Qu River. Along the way, we will come across several lively settlements that add to the beauty of the journey. We will also have the opportunity to witness the breathtaking Langqiang Co and the magnificent Paiku Co lakes.
Langqiang Co is a freshwater lake located in the Shigatse Prefecture of Tibet. It is one of the highest lakes in the world, situated at an altitude of over 5,000 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, and its crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding landscape. Visitors can take a walk around the lake or enjoy a peaceful picnic by its shore.
Paiku Co, also known as Paiku Tso, is a large lake located in the Ngari Prefecture of Tibet. It is known for its stunning scenery, with its turquoise waters contrasting with the stark brown mountains that surround it. The lake is also home to several species of birds, making it a popular destination for birdwatching enthusiasts.
Day06 Drive Saga - Paryang (4500m/14764ft) - Lake Manasarovar (4560m/14961ft).
Today's journey is going to be one of the longest, as we will be making our way towards the breathtaking Manasarovar Lake, passing through the town of Paryang. This Himalayan lake is located at an altitude of 4560m and is not only known for its stunning views of the Himalayas but also for its religious significance. It is considered one of the most sacred lakes in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.
As we leave Saga, the trail takes us past two small towns, Dajilingxiang and Lazangxiyang, before finally reaching the banks of the Yarlung Zangbo River. This river, also known as the Brahmaputra River, is one of the longest rivers in Asia, flowing from Tibet to India, and is considered holy by many Tibetans.
After a brief stop in the town of Paryang, we will continue our journey through the rugged and wild Tibetan terrain to reach the holy Manasarovar Lake. This lake is known for its crystal-clear waters, which are said to have healing properties, and is surrounded by stunning snow-capped mountains.
Visiting Manasarovar Lake is considered a pilgrimage for many devotees, and it is believed that taking a dip in its holy waters can wash away one's sins. The lake is also known for its rich biodiversity and is home to a variety of birds and aquatic life.
Day07 Drive Manasarovar to Darchen (4600m/15092ft)
The clear blue waters of the lake reflect the grandeur of the Himalayas that surround it, including the majestic Mt. Kailash, which stands tall at a height of 6,638m. The sheer size and grandeur of the mountain range is truly awe-inspiring, and we take our time to take in its beauty.
As we tour the picturesque lake, we are surrounded by a sense of tranquility and peace. The serene atmosphere and natural beauty of the surroundings create an unforgettable experience that is sure to stay with us for a lifetime.
After a morning spent admiring the beauty of the Himalayas and Manasarovar Lake, we head back to the hotel for a lovely breakfast. We then set off on a short drive towards Darchen, a small town located in the region. As we make our way towards Darchen, we continue to be surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Himalayas, making this a truly unforgettable journey.
Day08 Trek from Darchen to Dira Phug (4900m/16076ft)
Today marks the first day of our trek to Mt. Kailash, starting from Darchen and continuing on to the village of Dira Phug. Our journey begins at the Yamadwar, which we reach by exiting Darchen. From there, we will embark on a rocky Himalayan trail that spans a distance of 18 kilometers before finally reaching Dira Phug.
For those who may have difficulty walking the entire distance, there are options to hire ponies or porters to make the journey more manageable. It is important to note that the duration of the trek may vary depending on one's physical condition and any unforeseen circumstances. It is recommended to be well-prepared and bring appropriate gear for the trek, including comfortable hiking shoes, warm clothing, and plenty of water and snacks.
Day09 Trek from Dira Phug to Zuthrul PhugGompa (4790m/15715ft)
We embark on one of the longest days of the Parikrama, as we make our way towards the Zuthrul Phug Gompa. This journey will take us across the Dolma La Pass, which stands at an elevation of 5,660 meters.
Our journey begins as we exit Diraphuk and ascend through the beautiful Gauri Kunda and Ganesh Kunda, in that order. As we make our way up the slopes towards the summit of Dolma La Pass, we will encounter snowy terrain, which adds to the challenge of the journey. However, the stunning views of the Tibetan Himalayas, including the majestic Mt. Kailash (6,638m), more than make up for the effort.
As we cross the mountain pass, we will begin our descent towards Zuthrul Phug, where we will be able to rest and enjoy the stunning natural scenery that surrounds us. This part of the journey will take several hours and will cover a significant distance, so it is essential to pace ourselves and take necessary breaks.
Day10 Trek to Darchen and Drive to Mansarovar
we begin our descent from the sacred mountain, heading back towards Darchen. Our journey takes us in a full clockwise circle, as we complete the final leg of this spiritual pilgrimage.
As we make our way past Chogndo, we continue our descent through the final stages of the trail, which offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is not as physically demanding as the previous days, but it is still essential to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.
Once we reach Darchen, we complete all the necessary rituals, including taking a dip in the holy waters of Lake Mansarovar, which is believed to cleanse the soul of all sins. This ritual marks the completion of our journey around the sacred mountain and symbolizes the end of our spiritual pilgrimage.
After completing our rituals and taking in the final sights of the beautiful landscape, we prepare for our journey back home. Our journey takes us back to the serene lake of Mansarovar, where we can take some time to rest and reflect on the incredible experience we have had.
Day11 Drive from Manasarovar to Saga (4200m/13780ft)
After spending some time in the beautiful Tibetan landscapes, it is time for us to retrace our steps and head back towards Saga. We will begin our journey by driving through the stunning Himalayan landscape, which is adorned with picturesque lakes like Guija Co and Kunggyu Co. These lakes are known for their crystal-clear waters and tranquil surroundings, making them a must-visit for anyone traveling through the region.
The journey back to Saga will take around 7 to 8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. As we make our way back, we will follow the banks of the Yarlung Zangbo River, which is the longest river in Tibet. The river is known for its beautiful scenery, and we will be able to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys as we travel along its banks.
Along the way, we will frequently pass through small towns and villages such as Huo'erxiang and Lazangxiyang. These places are known for their unique culture and traditions, and we will have the opportunity to learn more about them during our journey.
Finally, after a long day of travel, we will reach our destination of Saga. This small town is located in the Shigatse prefecture of Tibet and is known for its beautiful scenery and friendly locals. Here, we will be able to rest and relax after our long journey and take in the sights and sounds of this unique and fascinating region.
Day12 Drive Saga from to Nyalam (3750m/12303ft)
Today marks our final day in the holy kingdom of Tibet, as we prepare to make our way over to Nyalam. Our journey will begin as we exit the town of Saga and leave the banks of the Yarlung Zangbo River behind.
As we venture further, we will pass through the breathtaking scenery of Zebaxiang and make our way towards a series of majestic lakes. Among these are the Mullin Co, Cuochuolong Co, Langqiang Co, and Paiku Co, each offering its unique beauty and charm. The stunning views that surround us make this one of the most memorable days of our trek.
Following the banks of the Pum Qu River, we will continue towards Nyalam, where we will conclude our journey. This final part of our trip will take several hours and will cover a considerable distance, so it is essential to stay alert and take necessary breaks along the way.
As we approach Nyalam, we will be treated to more of the stunning natural scenery that Tibet has to offer. The area is known for its unique landscapes and diverse wildlife, making it a favorite destination for nature enthusiasts.
Day13 Drive from Nyalam to Kathmandu | Farewell Dinner
Our journey begins on the banks of the Pum Qu River, as we make our way out of Tibet and head towards Zhangmuzeh. This small town marks the Tibetan border with Nepal, and from here, we will enter the Gaurishankar Conservation Area.
As we continue our journey, we will cross the border into Nepal and reach the town of Kodari. From here, we will follow the Araniko Highway, which winds its way through stunning mountain scenery, towards our final destination - Kathmandu.
The journey from Kodari to Kathmandu will take several hours, but the spectacular views of the Nepalese countryside will make the time fly by. We will pass through several small towns and villages, where we can witness the daily life of the Nepalese people.
Finally, we will arrive in the vibrant city of Kathmandu, where we will be treated to a farewell dinner hosted by the Himalaya Land Treks. This will be a chance to reflect on the incredible journey we have just undertaken and to say goodbye to the friends we have made along the way.
Day14 Departure to the International Airport
As your journey with us comes to an end, our representatives will once again take care of your transportation needs. They will ensure that you arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport in time for your flight back home.
